In 1992 the Swedish inventor Mr. Kjell K.
Alm discovered a completely poison free method to prevent
hard Marine bio fouling from settling upon submersed surfaces.
The method is based on the application of synthetic micro
fibres that are electro statically charged and then sprayed
onto a surface coated with a layer of special solvent free
based epoxy adhesives. Once sprayed the fibres sit up right
in the adhesive and have a look and feel similar to velvet.
They prevent hard fouling from settling in much the same
way as a Seal's fur protects itself. No biocides or other
poisons are used. Understandably Mr. Alm called his method
'SealCoat!'
In 1993 Mr. Alm patented his SealCoat method and started
carrying out tests to further develop the product and method
of application. In 1998 the tests were completed and resulted
in not only an enhanced poison free antifouling coating but
also other coatings were developed that could be combined
with the SealCoat AF antifouling coating and designed as long
lasting corrosion protection coatings.
From 1998 Mr. Alm had already begun to build a global network
under the banner of SealCoat. Today the SealCoat companies
operate in 20 countries all around the world.
By 2003 SealCoat companies will be operating in all strategic
marine markets. The ban on the most poisonous antifouling
paints in 2003 together with the continuing pressure to completely
rid the world of all poisonous antifouling paints will assist
SealCoat in realising its vision.
"To provide environmentally friendly coating solutions
and contribute to the global efforts that make our world healthier
and more humane"'
